Art & Globalisation- Yinka Shonibare, MBE, Presentation.

Yinka Shonibare was born in London and move to Nigeria when he was a young child, he moved back to London in his late teens to continue to study. His parents are both Nigerian so he has a strong cultural background. Being born and living most of his adult life in London, his art practice reflects his Nigerian background as well as the history and culture of London. The materials he uses represents the connection between different countries and how each country would not be the same that it is today with out the past influences from other countries. Shonibare also likes to create a lot of humour in his works, this is mainly done by having deadless fiberglass mannequins or the positions the mannequins are placed in.
Yinka Shonibare creates works using many different methods such as painting, sculpture photography, film and performance.
Finding information about the meaning of his works and detailed discriptions was relatively easy, this information could be found in journal articals and the section of information in the art & today and in interviews with Shonibare himself. Information that showed a different perspective of his works was difficult to find. Being able to read contrasting points of view may have been helpful in seeing his work in a different way.
