Art and Politics

Gunter Demnig
Stolperstein (Stumbling Blocks)
He creates blocks displayed on sidewalks around the cities, vilages and towns in Germany. He engraves words beginning with "Here lived" one on block. He illustrates the identities of people killed by the Nazi's in reference to their name, date and place of death. He has always been interested in pulic interests cultures and issues as a political artist.
He displays the stones himself bringing back the names of the holocaust victims for the public and audience to view. His style of making blocks is quite interesting and is a exceptional way of remembering the dead. As one walks by these blocks reads the word which is imprinted on the blocks and attracts the viewer attention.
