A short five pages within the chapter “The neo avant-garde” describe the origins and occurrences of the “Nouveaux Realist movement” which was essentially a take on the historic avant-garde movement. This article was relevant as Arman was one of the founders of the movement; the article underlies the purpose and ideas of the ‘New Realists’ and draws to our attention the importance of various changes in style that occurred within the works of Arman and the group itself.

Eleanor Heartney, Art and Today: pg.40-62 London and New York: Phaindon Press, 2008.

Eleanor Heartney’s ‘Art and Today’ contains an in-depth chapter specifically on ‘Quotidian object’ providing both definition and numerous examples of artists who use the quotidian object in varied ways within their practice. Through the examples of artists sited within the article, I was easily able to choose an artist to focus on for further research. The chapter focuses on Duchamp’s ‘readymades’ as the orientation of the Quotidian object, this interpretation therefore puts forward a clear opinion of what the quotidian object is however I found it to be a particularly one-sided view.
