Hawkinson has made a series of clocks where a small feature on the object ticks like clock arms
Tim Hawkinson has a fascinating way of working and a unique use of quotidian objects. Although many of his works contain cable ties, plastic sheeting, pens, extension cords, tooth paste tubes ect, he does not seem to be making the same statement duchamp once made about mass production and an ever increasing consumerist society. It is almost like he is embracing mass production and the access to materials and technology that was once only available to industry. Many of his works also contain parts of his own body like hair and finger nails (which is kind of like natural mass production?) which is not quotidian in the same way as fountain but very much quotidian by definition. He uses his body as a subject a lot of the time and uses motors and other types of electronics (all which is self taught) in his kinetic sculptures and in my opinion a relevant artist to contemporary art and the quotidian.
