Well while i was searching Abstraction in art i happen to fall upon an artist that i found highly interesting and quite cool. and a comment to sums up to me what is abstraction from my brief reading "Total abstraction bears no trace of any reference to anything recognizable".
Frank Stella (work pictured) is an artist i found that shows this very well.
He uses to works to show that a picture, his picture is nothing more that "a flat surface with paint on it" rather than a picture portraying something of his emotional state in life or something happening in the world around etc
he bought it down and shows us that total abstraction doesn't have to be all that but can be less.
