Doug Aitken is a video installation artist. The Art & Today book describes the meaning behind Aitken's works, it says "He breaks down the typically linear structure of video and film to capture the contemporary perception of time as a fragmented, accelerated, and muti-layered expericence". Aitken uses reel time in his works to represent the way he sees real time in the modern world, (that time can feel different, faster or slower, it is not all the same, different settings, feelings and the people around can affect a persons sense of real time).
