Julian Beever is a chalk artist, who has been creating optical illusions on sidewalks since the 1990s. Known as 'trompe-l'oeil' (or 'trick eye' in french), he creates large drawings which, when viewed at the right angle, look very realistic.
His work is very interactive, and most of the images you'll find have people posing with it. Many of his chalk drawings seem to tear open the sidewalk.
The works are created with a process called anamorphosis, which creates a distorted projection of an image, to be viewed at a certain angle. Leonardo Da Vinci is believed to have been the first person to create anamorphic drawings.
