Another Chapman bros

Its pretty obvious when looking at the Chapman Brothers works they they have a bit of an artistic man crush on Goya an artist who is arguably one of the first to delight in abjection. The work I find so incredibly interesting in regards to deformation is their 2003 body of work "Insult to Injury". Where they had collected arguably one of the most important complete sets of prints in the artistic world and systematically "rectifyed" them, painting clown and puppy heads on those of all the distrested war victims. This act of defacement has become as much of an afront to the many in the art as and the horrors depicted in the orignal prints. Its effects are almost carnvalseque circumventing the usual high reverence for art that has attained a level of historical reverence. I think this is a really clever and brave work it seems in this case the adding abjection to abjection can make for some beautiful ideas.
